LEATHER
I mainly use vegetable tanned natural leather, which is made to absorb dyes and oils. This means that any goods made with it will develop patina with wear and age. Marks and scratches are signs that you love wearing your leather goods, and they give them character. You will not get this from fake leather. However, it is still organic material and will disintegrate if neglected, so here are some tips to care for your leather goods:

  • Avoid water exposure as it can leave watermarks (unless that’s what you’re into!). Saltwater is especially bad as it can dry out leather.

  • No need to moisturize your belts if you wear it regularly — your natural oil and sweats will do that for you! However if it feels dry, treating it with leather moisturizer can help prevent cracking.

  • Keep away from your pups! They’re notorious for using your leather goods as chew toys.

  • Keep in shape if storing for long period of time. Avoid bending or folding. You can roll up your belt when stored, flesh side in always!

BRASS

  • Avoid moisture as it will tarnish/darken brass.

  • Brass hardwares will develop patina which is similarly beautiful as leather patina.
